  • I don't like to label myself as 'having or suffering' anything. 
But what's been made abundantly clear on this solo trip is that I overthink what complete strangers might be thinking of me.. just by walking,  existing, etc. I start questioning myself,  am I going up the subway stairs fast enough? I wonder if I should apologise for getting in everyone's way.  When I'm not talking all day I am consequently alone with my thoughts and patterns of thinking.  It's crazy how much I have noticed the way my thinking is.  And it's all day.. just swirling constantly in my head. 
Am I crazy? Well depends who you talk to 😊  Is this what they call social #anxiety? I suspect so.. But I know the minute I give this some bullshit label there will be a part of me that writes myself off..Oh it's social #anxiety. Thus in a way resigning myself to this 'condition or #disorder' whatever you wanna call it. 
But I don't do that.  I WILL challenge it.  I will do some internal work and look more deeply into this thought pattern and see where it stems from. 
Everything we do and think stems from something. Usually a behavior derived from something in our childhood. I'm pretty sure I know where this overthinking comes from. 
See now that I'm aware of it.  I can look at it.  Get to the bottom of it and think about what I need to do and heal within myself to change it.

Travelling alone is such a unbelievable space for self discovery and growth I gotta say. 
This has been another one of my 'fuck fear and just do it challenges.'
Everyday I discover or unearth parts of myself that I didn't realise I was hiding or is somewhat underdeveloped. 
Now I'm not talking from a place of judgement.  You cannot grow into you with judgement. Can't and won't happen.  You can try but you're really fighting ego. And that's not where your truth and freedom is 
In just a short amount of time away,  on my own,  in a brand new city..I am seeing parts of myself for perhaps the first time. 
I love it.  I embrace it and of course I welcome it.  It's me.  The universe shows you what you need to see if you're willing to look at it.

My tip for conquering fear.
Write down all the things you want to conquer. 
Start with something low risk. 
Immerse yourself in the feelings you have once you achieved it.
This will help remind you when you confront your next challenge. 
Use past success to motivate you to the next challenge. 
Acknowledge your fears but don't let them be the decider. 
The more you face your fears the more alive you become.

  • We keep ourselves stuck when we expect things to change without our involvement. 
You must try to do the very things you fear.
If you can recognise that your fear carries past hurt and experience and not on the present moment you take away it's power.
Know too that you will survive.
A lot of fear tells us we won't get through it.  But if you acknowledge all you've been through to this point, that argument kinda falls by the wayside. 
Just try.  You will never know what you can do if you don't at least try. 
I use to experiment with things I wanted to do but was #scared by keeping it to myself.  I played with skills and ideas without telling anyone.  That way the only pressure I had,  was created by me.  No one else ever knew.

  • Do you know that everything you do is a finely tuned strategy? Perfected over years and years.  So fine tuned,  so automatic it is no longer a conscious strategy.  It's unconscious. 
But here's the deal.  In everything you do unconsciously there's so many steps. But like a perfectly run machine you don't even know the steps.
That's behavior.  That's unconscious strategy.  We all do it. And for the most part is works well. We don't have enough hours in the day to keep abreast of every single step of every single way we behave and interact with the world.
But for some of our behaviors the strategies we use simply don't serve us in a positive way.  They no longer serve the way we'd like to be. 
So how do we change them? Those behaviors we'd like to change,  modify to improve our lives. 
We change them by first becoming aware of the ways in which we don't like the way we show up in certain areas of our lives.  Once we've become aware.  we need to pay attention to the steps we take to do that behavior. To do this we need to slow down our strategies.  Slow it down so you can pinpoint your thoughts,  beliefs and actions around that behavior and even around certain people or situations that may trigger that behavior. 
Once you can see the steps you take you then can take appropriate action to change the steps. Reflect on them.  Ask yourself some honest questions.  Explore alternative beliefs,  thoughts and actions which will ultimately change the process and therefore change the behavior. 
Key is that once you see it.  Once you know HOW you do something,  the power,  the freedom and the choice is now yours to decide  if you want to continue or change for the better.

  • I'm such a big Seinfeld fan. If you are familiar with this particular episode George finally sees that the decisions in his life aren't  working for him so he experiments by doing the opposite of what he usually does and he finds he actually gets the results he wants.
But how does this relate to healing trauma?
Well funnily enough this was my very strategy that I began experimenting with 20 years ago. 
What I was doing,  thinking, believing wasn't getting me the results I wanted to be ok.. to deal with my trauma . 
So I posed this question to myself
What if I began doing the opposite of what I've been doing and see if this makes any difference? 
It didn't change my life overnight BUT it was the strategy/ experiment that I found worked.  I found the results worked so bloody well I applied it to basically everything I did until I could see my own healing and #recovery. 
I get it probably sounds too simple to be effective but honestly what have you got to lose?
If what you're currently doing is not working  then why not try doing the opposite. It might just work.  It certainly did for me.

  • When I worked out that every time pain arrived it was there to teach me something,  I learned to embrace it.  Infact I looked fwd to it.  I welcomed it because I knew there was something  I needed to learn and understand about my healing.  There was something I needed to resolve.  There was something I needed to face and heal from. 
So when pain arises ask yourself what's happening?
Ask yourself what is this pain about? 
Get to know it. Embrace it because it's there for a reason. It's not there to hurt us.  It's not there to suppress or avoid. It's there to bring healing to our lives.
