If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.
True isn’t it?
Yet the step to changing something feel insurmountable. It FEELS too hard. it FEELS like we’re swimming upstream.
I get it.
The feeling feels so strong and triggers so many experiences where we’ve failed, or someone’s let us down, or things haven’t worked out the way we imagined they would.
We may try again, only to bring up those same FEELINGS.
Don’t get me wrong feelings ARE valid. They are important.
BUT what if instead of using your feelings to direct and motivate your decisions, you acknowledge the feelings and move forward anyway?
Because the problem with staying put because of our feelings is, that every time you avoid a change, or trying something, you actually strengthen that feeling, that uncomfortable scared feeling. You actually strengthen the fear and all the feelings around that.
These feelings gain momentum, getting stronger and stronger and so each time you really really wanna try and do that thing, the feelings re-surface with more strength more power.
Another way to look at it, is understanding that our feelings protect us from further hurt. We does help us in situations where it is needed.
So how do we move forward, take a step out of our comfort zones and try something new?
We move in spite of how we feel.
We move not avoiding but ACKNOWLEDGING it will feel uncomfortable, it will feel scary, it will feel BIG.
You can even act as an inner coach to that afraid part of you.
And openly talk your way through it.. “It’s ok. Yes I know I feel scared, but I want this change. I want this for myself.”
You have the ability to move through anything. To change even just a small thing in your life, but we must be wiling to face the uncomfortable feeling, acknowledge it’s presence and take that first step anyway.
