I created Trauma Informed Teachers Australia because I was once the child who needed exactly what your students need today: someone to notice, someone to understand, someone to stay steady when I couldn’t.
Growing up in abuse and neglect, my brain was wired for fear.
I didn’t have a safe adult to go home to, so teachers became my source of stability.
They didn’t know it, but their consistency and compassion were reshaping the way my brain worked.
Their everyday interactions calmed my stress response, helped me feel seen, and helped me trust that not all adults were dangerous.
Those ordinary moments; a smile, a gentle tone, a predictable routine, changed the trajectory of my life.
They taught my brain to seek out the same safe, familiar relationships that had helped me survive.
More than that, those same caring and consistent teachers were actually unlocking and removing barriers in the brain so I could learn.
Trauma Informed Teachers Australia exists to help educators understand this powerful truth:
When we look beyond behaviour and understand what’s happening in a child’s brain, we see the real story, and we respond in ways that change it.
Here, we bring together the human story and the science of connection.
We empower educators & schools to create safe, relational classrooms where children can regulate, relate, and learn, especially those who arrive at school carrying fear they did not choose.
You do not need to be a therapist to change a child’s life.
But you do need to understand what they’re facing, what their brain is adapting to, and what your care can undo.
That’s the heart of Trauma Informed Teachers Australia:
When we understand what’s happening for a child, our connection becomes the thing that helps them grow.
Trauma Informed Teachers Australia is growing a movement, a collective voice for children who need to be understood.
We share ways for educators to champion this message in their everyday environments, through resources, short courses and designs that spark awareness
Thank you for being part of a movement that changes children’s lives.

What educators have said about My Traumatised Brain session.
Beck’s insights into how trauma shows up in classrooms and how it hinders learning were eye-opening. What I love most is that her strategies don’t add to a teacher’s workload; they benefit the whole class. Her clear explanation of the Neurosequential Model, along with practical examples, has transformed my starting routines and how I use “brain breaks.” If you want to make your classroom calmer, safer, and more engaging for every learner, don’t wait for your school to offer it—this webinar is absolutely worth investing in yourself.
